Towing levy to exploit drivers: Nduom

Dr Nduom in a statement said towing levy is move to exploit Ghanaian drivers.

He said current laws mandates the government to tow broken down vehicles, wondering why the government will bring a private company to execute this mandate.

He said: Existing laws allow government to tow vehicles wrongfully parked on our roads and charge a fee accordingly.

“So why assume that we will all engage in illegal parking and require towing and as a result make it mandatory for all vehicle owners to pay a road towing fee every year?”

The towing levy, which was supposed to commenced in June, has been put on hold due to criticisms from commercial drivers and the public.

The political parties have also weighed in, condemning the levy in no uncertain terms.

Officials of the governing New Patriotic Party have said the new levy cost the party politically.
