Pulse.com.gh has sighted a letter by the National Council of Elders of the NPP to the disciplinary committee of the party seeking among other reliefs the suspension of Chairman Paul Afoko until after the 2016 elections.

The letter dated September 07, 2015 and signed by C K Tedam chairman of the council of elder is accusing Paul Afoko of breaching many aspects of the party's constitution.

The letter copied to Paul Afoko himself, Former President John Agyekum Kufour , Minority leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and Kwabena  Agyepong said at a meeting held on the 30th of July 2015 between the Council of Elders and national executives it was made clear the need to keep party matters away from the media.

It was also agreed at another meeting chaired by Paul Afoko that the allegation of financial malfeasance should be investigated by a five member committee and the findings submitted in a week.

"It therefore came as a shock of our teeming supporters, NEC and the National Council of elders to read in the dailies...a statement from one Mr. Nana Yaw Osei who described himself as the spokesperson of the national chairman of the NPP Mr. Paul Afoko about fighting corruption at all levels of the party. This was immediately followed by one Mr. Baah Acheamfour who proceeded to make a complaint to the police."

The letter said Mr. Afoko has gone further to give a statement to the police which is likely to take the matter out of the hands of the committee members and also give the matter more publicity.

The elders said the chairman's acceptance to allow the intrusion by the police in the party's internal matter following the complaint of a so called party member leaves much to be desired.

"The conduct of Chairman Afoko and his alleged spokesperson is in gross and flagrant violation of Article 3d (VIII) of the NPP's constitution under duties of a Member which states that a member shall not initiate commence or prosecute any legal proceedings whatsoever against the a party or any member of the party relating to party affairs without first exhausting the grievance procedure laid down in the Constitution in respect of grievances against the party or any other members," the letter said.

The Council is of the view that the action of the chairman has affected the image of the party negatively creating panic and disaffection especially leading up to the 2016 election.

In order to bring peace and tranquility in the party so it can focus on the 2016 elections the National Council of elders are recommending that a "thorough investigations into the constitutional breaches of the chairman Paul Afoko. It also wants "appropriate recommendation to promote discipline peace order harmony and progress in the party towards election 2016 and "at least a suspension of Chairman Afoko until after the 2016 elections."

The council said the party has reached a crossroad and definitive actions need to be taken to save the party.
