Shahista Lalani, who was a design intern for the twins’ Dualstar Entertainment Company in 2012, filed a lawsuit in a Manhattan Supreme Court claiming that she worked nearly 50 hours a week and was not paid a dime. Lalani also says in her class action, which includes herself and more than three dozen other interns, that she did not receive college credit for her time as an intern.
''I was talking to [the head technical designer] all day, all night. They’re kind of mean to you. Other interns have cried. I’d see a lot of kids crying doing coffee runs, photocopying stuff,'' Lalani noted in her suit against The Row.
''It was like 100 degrees outside. I’d just be sweating to death. I probably carried like 50 pounds worth of trench coats,” Lalani alleged she did the work of three interns and was once hospitalized for dehydration.
Lalani said her job duties as an intern included inputting data, cleaning and organizing around the office, sewing, photocopying, and making personal errands for employees. She claims she was doing the same exact work as paid employees at Dualstar Entertainment Company.
According to the lawsuit, 40 past and present interns can join if they choose.
