Two Fake Pastors Arrested On Legon Campus

Two persons have been arrested for allegedly imposing themselves as evangelists to the students of the University of Ghana Legon.

The two are being detained by the Legon District Police as further investigation is pending.

According to the Daily, Isaac Adjei, 53, and 28-year-old Rhoney Sarfo, together with one of their accomplices, identified only as Roland, were said to have introduced themselves to some students of the University of Ghana as evangelists and social workers but ended up attacking and robbing students on the campus.

Roland, who is believed to be the leader of the group, and his sister, who is said to have bought the stolen items from the group, is currently on the run.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Legon District Police Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mrs Savour Fleischer Ackon, said Adjei and Sarfo were arrested after one of the students identified Sarfo as the person who had stolen her phones and money.

She said the students, who were residents of the Pentagon Hostel, held church services with the fake evangelists after the three men had introduced themselves as men of God and social workers and solicited funds for an orphanage. However, while the church services were going on, a member of the group would go out and steal the students’ valuables. She said on Wednesday, February 11, 2014, the suspects went to the hostel at about 7 p.m. to organise a church service, as usual, but while they were sharing the word of God with the students, one of them identified Sarfo as one of the people who had stolen her phones and money.Mrs Ackon said the students hinted the Legon Campus Security, leading to the arrest of the two suspects. The two, she said, admitted the offence during interrogation and mentioned a sister of the gang leader as the person who had bought the stolen goods and sold them at Madina.

They also told the police that they spied on their victims while they solicited for funds for orphanages.

The police, she said, had since mounted a search for other members of the gang.
