‘My husband never defended me amid sing-a-thon backlash’ — Afua Asantewaa
Ghanaian media personality and former Guinness World Record sing-a-thon contender Afua Asantewaa has ignited widespread conversation online after speaking candidly about difficulties in her marriage.
In a viral video seen on 2 April 2026, Asantewaa used a TikTok live session to shed light on the issues that contributed to her separation from her husband, Kofi Owusu Aduonum.
Among the concerns she raised was what she described as a lack of public support from her partner, particularly during periods when she faced criticism on social media.
She said;
My partner is a journalist with over 30 years of experience, yet he has never come out to defend me. But during the sing-a-thon, he was able to stand in front of the camera and say he is proud of his wife… I don’t have anybody to talk to, but sometimes you just have to speak the truth
Her remarks have since generated intense debate across social media platforms, with users expressing divided opinions. While some criticised her for discussing personal matters publicly, others encouraged her to be mindful of how much she shares online.
The conversation continues to highlight the complex balance between public visibility and private life, particularly for high-profile personalities navigating personal challenges under public scrutiny.
