Court acquits and discharges defilement suspect

An Accra Circuit Court has acquitted and discharged a 44-year-old security man who was charged for defiling a nine-year-old girl in a security Post at Ogbojo.

The acquittal and discharge of Charles Valentine Doula, a Burkinabe follows the failure of the state prosecutors to prove the defilement charge beyond reasonable doubts.

The court presided over by Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, therefore found Doula not guilty of the charge and acquitted and discharged him.

Prosecuting, Inspector Judith B. Asante narrated to the court that the victim lived with her mother, the complainant at Ogbojo.

According to the prosecutor, On May 20, last year, at about 10:30 hours, Doula, who was on duty sent the victim at his work place in Ogbojo to buy him “sobolo” drink from her auntie’s house.

She said when the victim returned, Doula grabbed her, tied her hands with a net sponge and had sex with the victim in the security post.

Inspector Asante said after the act, Doula gave the victim GH¢1.00 and warned her not to inform anyone of the act, so the victim kept the ordeal to herself.

On May 24, Last year, when the victim returned from school she complained of feverishness so the complainant asked her younger sister to bath her.

Whiles bathing the victim, Prosecution said the complainant’s sister saw blood stains in her urine and alerted the complainant.

The victim the narrated her ordeal to the complainant and she also reported the incident to the Madina Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service.

A medical form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital for treatment and Doula was later picked up by the Police.
