Teenage girl commits suicide after getting pregnant

A teenage secondary school girl who got pregnant out of wedlock has committed herself because family reprimanded her.

A 17-year-old Junior Secondary School 3 student of Junior Secondary School, Bwari, Abuja, Aisha Usman, has allegedly committed suicide after her elder brother, Kabiru Usman, reprimanded her for getting pregnant, reports Daily Trust.

According to her bereaved father, Malam Usman Danladi, a businessman who resides with is family at Kuchi Kon Bwari, a suburb in the area council, the death of his daughter is worrisome and heartbreaking.

Danladi said his first son, Kabiru had called him to inform him of the death of his young daughter.

“On hearing that, I became confused and dismayed. I can’t remember how I even got home. I met people wailing and crying in my house.”

It was gathered that the teenager had gotten herself pregnant, an action that threw the family into confusion and while they all reprimanded her, she locked herself in a store and killed herself.

The elder brother, Kabiru, narrated that he had summoned his mother and the eldest sister, Khadija to talk to the deceased when the realised she was pregnant out of wedlock.

“On getting home, I met my sister Aisha, kneeling down in front of my mum and elder sister and crying. I asked what the problem was and my mother told me that my sister Aisha was pregnant. I became furious and started beating her.

She stood up and ran to the store where we keep our farm tools and locked the door. I knocked on the door but she refused to open it. I became agitated and forced the door open only to find Aisha’s lifeless body on the floor, foaming coming from her mouth.

We immediately took her to the hospital only for the doctor to tell us that she died before getting to the hospital."

The late girl's mother, Sumayyah Usman, told reporters she would not cry over her death because she had dragged the family's name in the mud with her actions.
