Here's the Sweet Moment When Zac Efron Told Matthew Broderick What 'Ferris Bueller' Meant to Him

Zac Efron might not have even been born when John Hughes' classic teen movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off was first released, but that doesn't mean it didn't have a huge impact on him. During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show on the BBC, both Efron and Ferris Bueller star Matthew Broderick were sat on the studio couch, and Efron touchingly revealed just how important Broderick's performance was to him.

It all started when talk show host Norton brought up Broderick's most iconic film roles. While famous for voicing the adult Simba in 1994's The Lion King, Broderick admitted that Bueller is still the character people remember: "They say 'hey Matt, is this your day off?'"

In the clip below, you can actually see the moment when Efron began to visibly fanboy:

"I'll tell you what they say, it's your quote at the beginning of the movie," Efron said, prompting Broderick to do a pretty spot-on recital of Bueller's opening monologue: "Life moves pretty fast. If you dont stop and look around once in a while you could miss it."

"Can I just tell you... when I first saw that movie when I was young, and I mean this sincerely... you literally got me to start living my life to the fullest, just with that performance, so thank you very much. I've always wanted to say that to you."

The moment earned a round of applause from the audience, and then Seth Rogen jokingly added: "Nobody's ever said that about one of my movies, and they never will."

Efron was on the show promoting his new film, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which tells the true story of serial killer Ted Bundy. Broderick was there to talk about his role in the West End play, The Starry Messenger, while Rogen was chatting about new romantic comedy Long Shot with his co-star Charlize Theron.
