Scorpion Stings Woman on United Flight

Scorpion Stings Woman on United Flight
  • A woman was stung by a scorpion on a recent United flight.
  • She says it was in her pant leg.
  • Scorpions have been found on flights before.

Flying can be stressful, time-consuming, and uncomfortable, but you can generally expect that the worst thing to happen in the air would be getting a gross meal or a seatmate who won't stop talking to you.

A woman on a recent United Airlines flight proved that theory wrong, however, when she ended up getting stung by scorpion mid-flight. She was flying from San Francisco to Atlanta when she was stung by the arachnid, and a spokesperson for United confirmed the incident: "After learning that one of our customers on flight 1554 from San Francisco to Atlanta was stung during flight, our crew responded immediately and consulted with a MedLink physician on the ground who provided medical guidance."

The woman reported that while on the flight, she felt a stinging sensation on one of her legs. When she got up to go to the bathroom, the scorpion dropped out of her pant leg. Flight attendants were then able to catch the nasty stowaway.

And while this story seems like a once-in-a-lifetime kind of occurrence, it's actually happened a couple of times before. In March 2019, a woman on an Air Transat flight from Toronto to Calgary, Canada said she was also stung by a scorpion mid-flight.

There have been scorpions reported on two other United flights in April and May 2017 , and a scorpion once crawled out of an overhead bin on a Lion Air flight .
