Bride asks her 89-year-old grandmother to be her bridesmaid

Elizabeth Govern (or Nana Betty as her family call her) was asked by her granddaughter Christine to be one of her four bridesmaids because they’re BFFs and by the looks of things she stole the show.

At the dear old age of 89, Nana Betty is fast winning the heart of the nation after acting as her granddaughter’s bridesmaid.

Photos of the gorgeous granny have gone viral as she proved that being a bridesmaid shouldn’t just be left to the young ones.

Christine had to plead her grandmother to take on the job and after asking her about 10 times Nana B finally agreed and stood beside the bride at her 2 May wedding.

“The decision was easy given the strength of our relationship,” Christine, from Pennsylvania told Huff Post. “Who doesn’t want her best friend standing beside her on her wedding day?”

Nana Betty even donned the same frock as the other bridesmaids – all of which were a good 60 years younger. But while the other bridesmaids opted for sleeveless, strapless and one-shoulder variations of the dusky purple dress, Nana B rocked sheer sleeves – and looked beautiful.

Christine says her granny was the life and soul of the party – which, judging by this pics, we have no problem believing.

“She had the entire wedding party laughing with her words of wisdom and funny comments throughout the day.”

“Nana got on the party bus with the rest of the wedding party instead of ‘going home to rest’ but did not tell my mom (her daughter),’ the bride revealed. “She also danced the entire night away, including an adorable moment when she and my husband’s grandmother, Bellsie, danced together. It was amazing.”

Nana Betty told her granddaughter that she loved the day, saying, “You’re only as old as you feel and I feel young today.”
