Paul Carter sacked by South Sydney Rabbitohs

Paul Carter has been sacked by South Sydney Rabbitohs after breaching the NRL club's code of conduct.

The forward is said to have missed training earlier this month, following the 20-0 defeat to North Queensland Cowboys, and widespread reports suggest a heavy drinking session was the cause.

Carter has reportedly checked into The Cabin, a top rehabilitation facility in Thailand, to help get back on track.

"The board has made a decision today to terminate Paul’s contract immediately as a result of his recent conduct," said Rabbitohs' general manager of football Shane Richardson in a statement.

"We have given Paul all of the support, and every opportunity, to get his career and life back on track but unfortunately he has been unable to meet the standards we had agreed when Paul joined the club.

"This is a bigger issue than football for Paul. Needless to say we will continue to provide welfare, support and assistance to Paul in his continuing rehabilitation."
