Outrage: Twitter angrily reacts to 'fast vanishing' ECG prepaid credits

Ghanaians have taken to social media to express their frustration at the rate at which their prepaid meter credits easily runs out after they recharge it.

The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) in December 2015 increased electricity tariffs by 59.2 percent.

Yesterday, the Deputy Minister of Power, Abu Jinapor, disclosed that some 333,903 consumers have been compensated for wrong deductions of their prepaid credits.

In addition, the Public Relation Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana, William Boateng said his outfit is working hard to ensure the "problems do not occur again."

A group known as the Pre-Paid Demonstrators Group has also threatened to demonstrate if government fails to address the abnormal running of their prepaid credits.

Residents of Teshie early this month protested in front of ECG offices in their area over what they say is abnormal deduction of their prepaid credits.

"Irony Of Life In Ghana #2. You just bought the prepaid and just when you're about to flash the card on the meter, ECG takes the light," one user wrote, while another tweeted "ChaseMoment as new prepaid meters have been installed for Westend Hostel. They consume credit like how a Corn mill consumes corn."

Another also tweeted, "Dumsor has nw metamorphosed into M3nsor. Prepaid credits nw run faster than Usain Bolt. 200ghs prepaid credit can get finished in jx 3 days."
