The clashes is said to have started on Wednesday July 21, after a chieftaincy impasse between the two royal families in the community.

Residents are said to be fleeing the area to safety as a mob of agitated youth from adjourning communities are moving into the conflict zone to support their loyalist.
District Chief Executive for Bole James Jaga, who confirmed the incident said he was on his way from Tamale to the place to assess the situation.

Speaking in an interview with Graphic Online the Northern Regional Crime Officer DSP John Anane indicated that police was aware of the protracted chieftaincy dispute in the town but could not confirm whether the clashes had led to the death of some persons.
