Robert Mugabe's rumoured collapse

Mugabe’s spokesman declined to comment on the rumour, telling Reuters a response to the latest speculation about his health was “unnecessary”.

The internet is awash with rumours that Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has collapsed after suffering a heart attack.

According to an unsigned letter published on Zimbabwe news website Zim Eye, the African dictator is in critical condition after falling ill while on holiday with family and friends.

However, the letter does not reveal any sources, leading many to speculate on the information.

The letter also claimed it is believed the 91-year-old leader will not recover.

The claim has yet to be verified with some calling it a hoax.

Mugabe’s spokesman declined to comment on the rumour, telling Reuters  a response to the latest speculation about his health was “unnecessary”.

As the UK Express reported, the latest questions surrounding Mugabe's health come after he was said to have died in 2014.

At the time reports varied on the incident, from saying the veteran leader was seriously ill, to that he had actually passed away.

However, it was later confirmed the Zimbabwean dictator was just spending two weeks in Singapore.

At the time he was forced to deny that his trip was for prostate cancer treatment and his lieutenants dismissed the rumours as baseless.

The weeks of speculation over his health drew to an end when he stepped out in public to mourn his 78-year-old sister Bridget, who died in Harare after three years in a coma.

Mugabe has ruled Zimbabwe, formerly called Rhodesia, since the country's independence from Britain in 1980.
