Osafo Maafo to lead government delegation to meet FIFA on August 16

This comes in the wake of FIFA’s threat to ban the country if a petition to liquidate the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is not withdrawn by government from the law court.

Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo has been tasked by President Akufo-Addo to take charge of the Government of Ghana-FIFA impasse.

Thus, Mr. Osafo Maafo will lead the government delegation to Zurich Wednesday night to engage the world football governing body on recent development in football.

According to sports journalist, Saddick Adams, the President is convinced Osafo Maafo's experience in the football terrain would smoothen the process.

It is believed that the meeting between the two parties will amongst others discussion football reforms and how Ghana can avoid a ban.

FIFA in a letter to Ghana on Tuesday, 14 August 2018 said Ghana government’s petition to liquidate the GFA was an interference in football which contravenes FIFA’s rules and regulations and gave the country an August 27 deadline to withdraw the petition or face a ban.
