Andy Murray could keep Jamie Delgado as coach

Andy Murray could keep Jamie Delgado as his coach

Andy Murray says keeping Jamie Delgado on as coach could be a long-term option.

Murray split with Amelie Mauresmo on May 9, with assistant Delgado taking over his coaching responsibilities.

The world number two defeated Novak Djokovic for the Internazionali d'Italia title last weekend, and he has suggested the current formula could be retained long term.

Murray said: "That's for sure possible [to remain with Delgado]. I'm always looking to improve, so if there is something that I feel could help me, then for sure I would look into that in terms of another person to help out, and also to give him a break as well from time to time.

"Travelling every single week during the year and every practice week is tough, and it's the beginning of our relationship just now.

"Normally over time, when you spend so much time with each other, having a little bit of separation can be good, too."

Delgado only went as high as 121st in the world rankings during his playing career, but featured at Wimbledon for 23 successive years.

The Brit helped guide Gilles Muller from below 300th in the world rankings and into the top-40 before linking up with Murray, who considers that evidence of his quality.

"I enjoy working with him. I obviously know him very well. We get on well away from the court. But he's a very good people person. He communicates very well with everyone. He gets on well with my whole team," he continued.

"I find it very easy to chat to him. He's a relaxed guy. On top of that he's very, very experienced around the tour. I mean, he's played whatever it was, 23 Wimbledons in a row, so he's been around the game a long, long time.

"He's a good coach. I enjoy working with him and had good results too with Gilles Muller and we started well."

Murray will be looking to win a third grand slam of his career at the upcoming French Open, where he faces Radek Stepanek in the first round.
