Bogaerts fires Red Sox, Encarnacion leads Blue Jays

The Boston Red Sox were on fire as Xander Bogaerts enjoyed a second-straight four-hit game to help his side to a 15-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday.

Bogaerts hit a two-run homer during the win, which got off to a magnificent start with a four-run first inning and that was added to by a solo run in the sixth and then back-to-back five-run efforts in the last two innings.

Divisional rivals the Toronto Blue Jays took a second-straight win against the Baltimore Orioles, an 11-6 triumph courtesy of more fine work from Edwin Encarnacion.

The Dominican ace backed up his walk-off homer on Friday with two home runs and five RBIs on Saturday as the Blue Jays improved to 34-30.

The Washington Nationals shut out the Philadelphia Phillies 8-0 as Tanner Roark picked up seven strikeouts over seven innings as well as driving in a run, while the Kansas City Royals scored a 4-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Former Atlanta Brave Jason Heyward came back to haunt his old side as he hit the first of four homers in an 8-2 win for the Chicago Cubs, while the Houston Astros were 4-3 winners over the Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers triumphed 7-4 over the New York Mets.

The Oakland Athletics lost 2-1 on the road against the Cincinnati Reds, the Colorado Rockies were 5-3 winners at home to the San Diego Padres, the Detroit Tigers bounced back with a 6-1 win over the New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants needed a 10th inning to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4.

In other results, the St. Louis Cardinals picked up a 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Los Angeles Angels were 4-3 winners over the Cleveland Indians, the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Miami Marlins 5-3 and the Texas Rangers were 2-1 winners over the Seattle Mariners. ED-WIN STRIKES AGAIN

Blue Jays slugger Encarnacion reached base five times in Saturday's 11-6 win against the Orioles by collecting three hits with two home runs, five RBIs and two walks. Though he is not as consistent as he once was, Encarnacion can still win a game for Toronto with one mighty swing of the bat. PERALTA CELEBRATES IN STYLE

After tossing seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, Nationals starter Roark has as many starts with seven-plus innings pitched and zero runs as Clayton Kershaw (four). Only Jake Arrieta (five) has more.

Meanwhile, the Cubs scored four runs in the fourth inning, which put them up 5-0 on the Atlanta Braves before ultimately winning the game 8-2. With the win, the Cubs have now won their last 57 games after leading by five or more runs at any point in a game. BALTIMORE OUT TO SAVE SERIES

Baltimore will send struggling Ubaldo Jimenez (3-6, 6.21 ERA) to the mound to try to fend off Toronto's talented new starter, Aaron Sanchez (5-1, 2.91 ERA). The Orioles have been somewhat surprising this season as they continue to compete in one of the toughest divisions in baseball.
