Garbine Muguruza hopes to be selected by Conchita Martinez to represent Spain at the Rio 2016 Olympics and play alongside Rafael Nadal.

Although she was born in Venezuela, the 22-year-old qualifies for Spain through her father and has got her sights set on Rio and potentially three medals.

Muguruza's rise to the top of the women's game began in 2014 as she reached the French Open quarter-final, and she repeated that feat last year before also reaching the Wimbledon final.

She is now the highest-ranked female Spanish player, making her favourite to be part of the Rio squad – with Nadal also expected to feature.

"I would love to play, you know, all three disciplines at the Olympics, but Conchita will decide," she said after her 6-2 6-0 victory over Myrtille Georges at Roland Garros on Wednesday.

"I'm open, and I will do whatever I'm told.

"She [Martinez] asked us what we had in mind, what we wanted to do. Of course, she needed our views, and then she's going to make the ultimate decisions regarding teams."
