The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has refuted claims by a group calling itself the HOPE Campaign that they doctored a video the latter produced for the 2016 elections.

“The fact that they [HOPE Campaign] brought out the [video] first does not mean they are the originators," he said.

Mr. Fred Agbenyo continued: “I think it is laughable the NPP thinking that anybody is stealing something from them. These are people who are not ready for the election.”

According to him, the party has not mandated anybody to create videos to counter the claims of the HOPE campaign. He however noted that certain elements in the party were doing their own campaign without the authority of NDC leadership.

This is not the first time; the NDC (in particular) has been accused of stealing ideas from other political parties.

This comes after the NPP declared that they won’t be releasing their manifesto or any clear cut policy because of fears that it will be copied by the NDC.

The HOPE Campaign video went viral after it was shared on social by members of both the HOPE campaign team and members of the main opposition;New Patriotic Party slamming the failure of the NDC government but a 48 hours after the release of the video, another video similar to the former has appeared online touting the president’s achievements during his first-term.

Social media has been awash with criticism for the behaviour of the NDC with some comparing it to Melania Trump’s plagiarised speech of Michelle Obama.

National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, in a reaction to the claims of Fred Agbenyo said he was virtually disoriented when he got his hands on the plagiarised video.

He said the campaign was started by “young professionals and business men” who believe the youth of Ghana need HOPE and a leader to rely on to deliver the public goods but declared he was appalled why the “NDC think HOPE should be equated to hopelessness.”

“This is why the NPP has not released its manifesto as well.” He confessed

“These guys have no shame when it comes to plagiarism. They plagiarise to the extent of plagiarising something put together by young professionals,” he said.
