Ghana, Australia to unite through music and culture at Mala Majo Festival 2027
Ghana and Australia are set to strengthen cultural ties through music, dance, storytelling and community at the maiden Mala Majo Festival 2027, a three-day cultural exchange event scheduled for January in Accra.
The festival, led by Fred Nii Addo and One Spirit Africa, will take place at Nungua Main Station from January 8 to 10, 2027, bringing together artists, cultural practitioners, vendors, community members and international participants.
Mala Majo is designed as more than a music and dance festival. It is a cultural exchange project that seeks to give participants from Australia an opportunity to experience Ghanaian culture from within local communities.
As part of the Ghana leg of the programme, participants will engage in traditional Ghanaian drumming and dance, interact with local communities and explore significant cultural and historical sites.
The experience will also create a platform for Ghanaian musicians, dancers and other performers to share their craft with an international audience.
The cultural exchange will continue beyond Ghana.
Following the Ghana experience, Fred Nii Addo and One Spirit Africa will travel to Australia to share Ghanaian music, dance and traditions with Australian audiences.
The organisers say the initiative is built around the idea of bringing two countries and cultures together through the universal language of music and dance.
Through performances, cultural experiences and community interaction, Mala Majo seeks to encourage friendship, understanding and deeper connections between Ghanaian and Australian communities.
Ahead of the festival, the organisers are inviting musicians, dancers, performers, vendors and other creatives interested in participating to come on board.
For the organisers, the vision of Mala Majo goes beyond a three-day celebration. It is an attempt to create a lasting cultural bridge between Ghana and Australia, one built through shared experiences, creativity and community.
Mala Majo Festival 2027 will be held at Nungua Main Station in Accra from January 8 to 10, 2027.
