Kyle Edmund stunned eighth seed Gilles Simon at Queen's to delight the home crowd and book a last-16 spot.

The Briton recorded the biggest win of his career with a 6-4 3-6 6-1 triumph on Wednesday, putting him on course for a potential quarter-final showdown with Andy Murray or another countryman in the shape of Aljaz Bedene.

Before that, though, he must overcome Paul-Henri Mathieu, who dumped out Englishman Dan Evans 7-6 (10-8) 6-7 (6-8) 6-3.

Fifth seed Marin Cilic moved into the last eight, seeing off Janko Tipsarevic 6-4 6-2.

Big-serving Cilic saved a break point at 4-4 in the opener and then struck against the Tipsarevic serve to love to take the first set.

The Croatian then broke twice in the second set and took his first match points to set up a showdown with Steve Johnson.

Johnson booked his place in the next round by coming from behind to seal a 6-4 3-6 6-4 victory over Adrian Mannarino.

John Isner beat Juan-Martin Del Potro 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 in his first-round match, while third seed Milos Raonic downed controversial Australian Nick Kyrgios 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 6-4.
