Russian, Ukrainian galamsey operators granted bail

The foreigners were said to have mined about 500 acres of land instead of 75 acres originally given them by the Lands Commission at Tontokrom in the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region.

The two Russians and their two Ukraine counterparts who were arrested in the Ashanti Region for engaging in illegal minning have been granted bail by a circuit court in Accra.

The four, who are managers of Geo professional Services, were granted bail to the tune of two hundred thousand each with one surety who must be a Ghanaian. They were also ordered by the court to deposit their passports with court registrar and report to the CID offices every fortnight.

The foreigners were said to have mined about 500 acres of land instead of 75 acres originally given them by the Lands Commission at Tontokrom in the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region.

They arrested following an order by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu during his tour of mining sites in the Ashanti region.

The four have pleaded not guilty to charges of undertaking small scale mining in Ghana without license.

The four, Farid Isaev, Vadim Potokin and Serhii Chepurnly; and Genadly Rubec, have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and undertaking small-scale mining without licence.
