The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is content that the collapse of a temporary ramp at the sailing venue in Rio will not affect training or competition at the Games.

High tides and waves battered the main ramp at the Marina da Gloria on Saturday, just six days before the Olympics get under way.

IOC director of communications Mark Adams does not expect the damage to disrupt practice or the main events.

He said: "I understand from the sailing federation they're not concerned by this. It won't affect training, or competition.

"They've got a 25-person team working on it at the moment. And as I say, they're not overly concerned. In the run-up to the Games things happen.

"There are always issues in the run-up to any Games. I don't think this one is any different. I don't think it says anything about the quality of all the other venues or anything else. This is one specific issue."
