Notts thump 445 in 50 overs

Trent Bridge played host to cricketing carnage on Monday as Nottinghamshire racked up the second-highest score in the history of List A cricket - a mammoth 445-8 from 50 overs against Northamptonshire.

Michael Lumb and Riki Wessels were chiefly responsible for putting Northants' attack to the sword, the openers sharing a remarkable 342-run stand for the first wicket inside 40 overs.

A flurry of wickets followed Wessels' departure for a 97-ball 146, with Lumb falling for 184 from 150 deliveries - a new record score for Notts.

Yet the hosts were still able to overhaul the previous second-highest List A score of 443-9, made by Sri Lanka against the Netherlands in Amstelveen 10 years ago.

Perhaps surprisingly, Notts' huge total still fell some way short of the record. Surrey posted a scarcely believable 496-4 against Gloucestershire at The Oval in 2007, thanks largely to Ali Brown thundering 176 from 97 deliveries.
