Rio 2016: Hsu Shu-ching after London gold

Taiwanese weightlifter Hsu Shu-ching secured gold for the women's 53kg event in Rio, before calling for an upgrade to her silver in London four years ago.

Hsu, 25, lost out on gold at London 2012 to Kazakh lifter Zulfiya Chinshanlo, who later failed a doping test.

Chinshanlo was provisionally suspended by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) in June and is not competing in Rio.

While no official ruling has been made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with regard to Chinshanlo's case, Hsu is hoping she will be upgraded to gold sooner rather than later.

"I hope I will know the result of my silver turning to gold as soon as possible," Hsu told reporters after her win on Sunday.

Hsu lifted a total of 212kg at the Riocentro Pavilion 2, fending off the challenge from China's Li Yajun.

"Chinshanlo's not here so there was one less fierce competitor for me. There was just the Chinese competitor really," Hsu said.

"I am very happy and very excited. I want to dedicate it to my family, my coach and everyone who supports me."
