Saints, Sean Payton agree to five-year extension

Payton was speaking to reporters at the NFC coaches breakfast during the NFL's annual meeting in Boca Raton, Florida on Wednesday.

The deal is reportedly worth more than $45million.

"There's so much of you in there, that I don't see myself working anywhere else," Payton - who arrived in New Orleans in 2006 - said of his 10 years with the franchise.

"There's been really good stability and consistency at ownership and I think that doesn't guarantee anything, but it gives you a chance. It's been very functional.

"That stability, obviously, I don't take for granted."

Payton has an 87-57 record since being appointed by the Saints and led them to the Super Bowl XLIV title in 2010.

The 52-year-old's success in New Orleans is largely tied to quarterback Drew Brees, who is also discussing an extension with the team.

Brees, 37, is entering the final season of a five-year, $100 million deal he signed in 2012.

"I know [Saints general manger] Mickey [Loomis] and [Brees' agent, Tom Condon] have had quite a bit of discussion in the last week and a half," Payton said of the negotiations surrounding his quarterback.

"I would say ongoing now. It always takes a little longer than you want it to, and they're never the same. This was a different type of negotiation than the last one [in 2012]. But I know there's been quite a bit of dialogue."
