Selma Blair revealed in an emotional new Instagram post that shes not with her son, Arthur Saint Bleick , on his eighth birthday, a fact thats tearing her up. I slept two hours. There is a pain. In my head. In my throat where the tears start, she wrote, alongside a photo of Arthur cutting her hair. I want to smell him. Tell him I am so proud of him. Hold him. And I will. Just not on his birthday. Which is today.

Selma then recalled the pain of having her son. It was a painful induced labor. He was weeks late according to doctors. I felt fine. He wouldnt listen. And there was still fluid. But I was pressured, and agreed. Defeated, she wrote.

Selma said her induction was horrific and she went into full labor with no dilation. That went on for 37 hours, and she finally asked for an epidural. I was so at their mercy. And I had to protect him, she said.

Selma wrote that she was scared of motherhood but that her friend drove two hours to be by her side, and reassured her that she would be a good mom.

Arthur was born on July 25 and Selma said she had to fire a doctor who said I needed a C-section. Then, she got her beloved ob-gyn Paul Crane (who reported delivered Beyonce Knowles twins and the Kardashian babies) to easily deliver Arthur.

Selma said Arthur's father, fashion designer Jason Bleick, cut the cord and said he looked like me. And now my kid can cut his mom's hair and make jokes and assure me just by being him that I am good enough. Even if we arent together for this birthday. Which makes tears well, I know he is happy with dad, dancing and playing on the beach later today, she wrote. What more could I really ask for. Happy birthday. My son. I love you oceans, mama.

Selma previously shared a photo of her son helping her shave her head . While it was unclear why she chose to crop her hair, one commenter on that post wrote, "Hair is SO HARD to deal with when you can't lift your arms above your head," to which Selma agreed. "Yup," she responded. Selma was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018 and has been candid about her mobility issues since then.
