Chief Justice orders judges to wear wigs

The memo, which was dated October 23, 2017, stated that: “Her Ladyship the Chief Justice has directed that, with effect from 1st November, 2017, all judges are to wear wigs during Court sittings.”

The decision was taken to preserve the tradition and the uniqueness of the work of judges and the legal profession.

The memo also indicated that the move is aimed at providing judges with the needed protection and anonymity for their personal security.

The directive is also to restore the “formal nature of court proceedings and eliminate the creeping casualness in the system”.
