It was an ill-disciplined affair as Widnes Vikings lost to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, while Catalans Dragons slipped up at Hull FC.

Catalans Dragons missed the chance to go level with Super League leaders Warrington Wolves as they lost 28-26 at Hull FC, while Wakefield Trinity Wildcats snatched victory in an ill-tempered affair at Widnes Vikings.

French side Catalans headed to the KC Stadium on the back of seven consecutive victories and another two points would have left them on 20 points alongside Wolves.

However, they were unable to overturn a 20-14 half-time deficit despite Pat Richards finishing the match with a hat-trick on Friday.

Three tries in the opening 10 minutes from Fetuli Talanoa, Scott Taylor and Curtis Naughton put the hosts - who handed head coach Lee Radford a new deal in midweek - in the driving seat, and Sika Manu scored their fourth after Louis Anderson's try had put the visitors on the board.

The away side were back in it by half-time, though, as Richards' double brought the scores within six, only for Taylor's second after the break to stretch Hull's lead once again.

Jason Baitieri touched down in the 65th minute for Catalans, but Marc Sneyd's penalty 10 minutes from the end proved crucial for Hull as Richard's third score in the closing stages was in vain.

At the Select Security Stadium, Wakefield ran out 18-16 winners at Widnes in a match that saw both teams finish with 12 men in a volatile affair.

Widnes' Patrick Ah Van had already been sin-binned for an illegal hit on Ashley Gibson that sparked a coming together.

And when Ah Van returned to play he took a forearm from Scott Moore leading to an ugly 26-man brawl, which saw the latter and Widnes' Aaron Heremaia sent off.

Wakefield then led at the break through Anthony Tupou's try and Liam Finn's boot kept them in the match despite second-half scores from Charly Runciman, Eamon O'Carroll and Rhys Hanbury for Widnes - who had Lloyd White sin-binned on the hour.

But with the clock winding down, Stefan Marsh also went in the bin for Widnes and that proved costly as Craig Hall scored the winning try for Wakefield with two minutes remaining.

Rounding off the action, champions Leeds Rhinos continued a miserable season in a dramatic 26-20 defeat at Huddersfield Giants, who moved off the bottom of the table.

Leeds captain Rob Burrow scored with just over 10 minutes to go to put the Rhinos 20-16 ahead, but their brittle defence was exposed again this season as Jake Connor and Eorl Crabtree scored in quick succession to earn the home side a huge win at the bottom.
