Drive private sector investment in Ghana: Akufo-Addo charges new ambassadors

Speaking at the Flagstaff House Friday after appointing eight persons as Ambassadors to China, Germany, France, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, USA and UK, the president said they are the chief promoters of Ghana’s commercial interest to their respective assigned countries.

“Promoting Ghana means working closely with our ministries and agencies at home whose role it is to generate investment to the country,” he said.

He urged them to remember vividly the campaign slogan of the New Patriotic Party: “One-District, One-Factory, One-Village, One-Dam, Planting for Foods and Jobs.”

“They are descriptions of our commitment to rapid development and transformation of the nation’s industrial and agricultural sectors,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo said his administration is determined to create the appropriate microeconomic environment which will attract domestic and foreign investors in the real sectors of Ghana’s economy.

“You have to help in that exercise,” he charged the new ambassadors. “You must strive to develop cordial working relations with the professional Foreign Service offices you find at your duty post. They have the tangible experience and knowledge of the terrain to help you work effectively.”

He further charged them to also build a good rapport with the Ghanaian community in their respective designated countries.

“They will be counting and looking up to you to champion not only our interest but theirs as well,” he said.

He said Ghana has a good bilateral relation to all the countries they have been assigned to dating back to several decades.

“You role is to deepen this further,” he said.
