Lotto operators accuse pastors of decline in patronage

Lotto operators have accused pastors of destroying their business.

They argue that scores of people who would want to stake lotto are now unable to do so because of the extent at which pastors continue to preach against the practice.

The operators are, therefore, calling on the Ghana Lotteries Authority to institute campaigns which will reflect that the trade is not demonic.

A lotto operator, Samuel Quashi, at a stakeholder’s forum in Accra said “Our work is supporting the economy to a large extent. We are helping to build the nation. Therefore we need to be respected. Lotto is big business but some pastors are killing the job.

“Whiles we are trying hard to attract more people, Pastors are killing the job. Some of our customers are shy to be seen close to a kiosk,” he added.

“We have to go into their cars with the machine to stake it for them. So please let the adverts you churn out reflect the fact that lotto is not demonic,” he said.

Meanwhile, the National Lottery Authority (NLA) has disclosed that it is planning to formalise the activities of all stakeholders, particularly banker to banker operators.

The formalisation will be done in phases in order to triple the earnings of the NLA to the government.
