The said landlord identified as Idemudia Obamonyi took the draconian action leaving owners of about 20 shops being housed by his building helpless and heartbroken.

The incident happened at Iwebo lane behind Oba Market in Benin City, Edo State and one of the affected tenant is quoted as saying, “If they are having family issues, they should go and solve it. It is not for them to put us in trouble.”

A resident in the area who witnessed the trailblazing eviction is also quoted as having said, “We saw people holding him and he was saying let the house burn, I don’t get any money from it.”

Though this method of eviction looks strange, it is not the first time tenants have been subjected to such a heartless mode of eviction. Late last year, a Kenyan man was also in the news for reportedly dumping buckets of human excreta in his building to get defiant tenants vacate the building.
