64-year-old woman joins grandson in jail after smuggling drugs to him
Investigators found 22 sealed drinking straws containing various drugs including heroin in Shawn Douglas Weisters possession, shortly after his grandmother visited him in jail.
The Mountain State Fugitive Task Force said Carolyn Lou Gay was arrested Wednesday based on 15 charges related to drug possession and delivery.
According to reports, a criminal complaint against Gay said she visited her grandson September 2 at Eastern Regional Jail near Martinsburg.
The complaint further stated that a guard heard inmate Shawn Douglas Weister give Gay clearance to “go ahead.” It said Weister was directed to a strip search room, but instead, he ran away.
When guards caught up, he yelled, asking his grandmother to “Run granny, they caught me.”
The complaint stated that investigators found 22 sealed drinking straws containing various drugs including heroin in Weister’s possession. His grandmother, Gay became the first suspect because she was the only person who visited him.
