Lancaster University joins breast cancer awareness campaign

October is the month of breast cancer awareness and Lancaster University joins in the campaign.

The event was powered by Lunch Box Club of Lancaster University in partnership the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The program had some health persons from the Korle Bu breast cancer unit and some resource persons from the Yvonne Otchere Breast Disorders Foundation.

The month of October has been designated as a breast cancer awareness month which is also referred to as Pink October. There has been a surge in the cases of breast cancer here in Ghana.

Breast cancer is now the second leading course of females in Ghana with cervical cancer being the first.

The screening began with brief health forum to educate people on what breast cancer entails. The highlight of the program was a time with a breast cancer survivor, Madam Doris Okai, 67 years of age.

The mother of two boys inspired ladies to take self-care serious and also shared her experience as one who has breast cancer and had a mastectomy to curb her situation.
