Chamber of Commerce asks gov't to subside utility tariffs

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) in December 2015 increased price of electricity and water by 59.2 percent and 67.2 percent respectively.

President of the Chamber, Nana Dr. Appiagyei Dankawoso  said his members “are complaining that the cost [of electricity] is so high.

“We are still pleading that the government will do something about it,” he said in an interview Citi FM.

According to him, the onus of job creation lies with the government but said “the private sector is doing all that” and that utility bills “could be subside” to create jobs.

The increase was met with outrage by Organised Labour and the business community.
