Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has stated that government has begun the process of identifying communities in the Manya Krobo area to benefit from water supply from the Kpong water system.

He also gave the assurance that very soon the people in the traditional area would benefit from various infrastructural projects initiated by government.

The Vice President made this known when he joined the Chiefs and People in the Manya Krobo Traditional area to celebrate this year’s Ngmayem Festival at Krobo Odumase in the Eastern Region.

This year’s festival was on theme: “Education and Self-Discipline: Tool for development.”

The Ngmayem which could be explained as the celebration of new “NGMA”-Millet harvest every year is intended to bring home Krobos from all walks of life.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur said traditional festivals are important events in the society because it provides the people with the opportunity to thank God for his guidance and protection as well as the time to clean the ancestral stools and perform other important rites.

He said the Ngmayem festival has become one of the flagship events for the celebration of culture and the exhibition of beauty and creative talents in the country, adding that the celebration of the festival would help boost local tourism and impact positively on the socio-economic life of the people.

The Vice President said the theme chosen for the celebrations was most appropriate because as leaders they have a responsibility to come out with ideas that would inspire the people to maximise their effort to improve their standards of living.

He called for a strong partnership between the chiefs and government through discipline and hard work to achieve meaningful development and prosperity for the people.

He noted that despite the many challenges which confront the nation, government is optimistic about the prospects of the economy and as such working hard to bring development to the people.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur pledged government’s support to strengthen collaboration with the chiefs to enhance the progress of the Krobo people.

According to him, government has initiated number of infrastructural project s in the Manya Krobo municipality to improve the conditions of the people.

He urged the people in the traditional area to come together and ensure peace for development, adding that disputes and difference among the people has the tendency to slow down progress in the community.

Nene Sakite II, Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional area, commended government for undertaking various development al projects in the traditional area including building a community health centre, various school projects and constructions of the town roads among others.

He however appealed to government to enhance water supply to the various communities in the Manya Krobo area.

He said even though water is supplied from the Kpong Water Plant to Tema and Accra, and from Bukunor Water System to Koforidua and other towns however the people in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality do not enjoy adequate water supply.

Nene Sakite asked the government to return lands which were taken by the colonial government but were not used for its intended purposes.

He called on the Executive to rehabilitate the bad feeder roads in the farming communities in the area to enable farmers transport their produce to the market centres.
