Akufo-Addo will soon crack the whip on corrupt officials - PC Appiah Ofori

Speaking on Accra-based Rainbow Radio Tuesday, the former Member of Parliament for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa in the Central Region said he has confidence in the president to fight corruption.

According to him, the president is using his first year in office to put the right structures in place to start the fight against corruption.

“That is when you will see the true character of Nana Addo," he said. "I have confidence in him that whoever has stolen the nation’s money, whether during the NDC era or under his administration will be dealt with."

“I believe that if an auditor’s report reveals that there is corruption somewhere, or if somebody has stolen the country’s money, he will not spare them.”

President Akufo-Addo has said a bill will be sent to Parliament when it resumes sitting for the creation of the office of the special prosecutor.

The office, he noted, will handle special corruption cases.

Asked about the special prosecutor, Mr Ofori said the special prosecutor will have the courage to fight corruption, unlike the attorney general's department, due to the many cases it is handling.

"There are many cases at the Attorney Generals department, but they do not have the courage to deal with them, so the Special Prosecutor will tackle issues on corrupt practices," he said.
