“Big man” at forestry commission selling forest reserves to Chinese miners - Kweku Baako

Speaking on Joy FM’s Newsfile Saturday, June 10, 2017, Mr Kweku Baako said the top management member has been caught on tape giving out the nation’s forest reserves and concession for money.

The Forestry Commission of Ghana is responsible for the regulation of utilization of forest and wildlife resources, the conservation and management of those resources and the coordination of policies related to them.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Newsfile Saturday, June 10, 2017, Mr Baako said the top management member has been caught on tape giving out the nation’s forest reserves and concession for money.

He said: “There is a big fish…at the Forestry Commission who is making all sorts of noise and calling the army, calling the police, doing this, doing that, but that gentleman is caught on tape selling forest reserves and concessions to Chinese and other Ghanaians and collecting money. He is there at the Forestry Commission, he’s a big man.”

The Akufo-Addo administration has announced a sweeping ban on mining following the pollution of the nation’s river.

A number of excavators used for the mining has been pulled from some mining sites in compliance with the order while others have been confiscated for defying it.
