It comes on the back of complaints that children, particularly those below 13, are roaming the streets and taking over the metropolis.

In an interview with Accra-based Starr FM, the Mayor of Tamale said that his outfit has given parents a two-week ultimatum to take their children off the streets.

“We are craving for an orderly, disciplined and sanitized society and you cannot have a society where the people who are the future leaders are left unsupervised and that is why I think it’s important we send a clear message to parents of these minors roaming the street….I’m not going to be a mayor for anything, the welfare, and security of these children is critical, my job here is to make sure the welfare of every citizen in Tamale lives in peace and security the future of everyone is important. I’m sending a message to them, we will arrest children who roam the streets at night and their parents will be brought to the Juvenile courts to answer”, he said.

The Mayor has also given some occupants of the only surviving forest reserve in the city 21 days to move or they will be forcefully evicted by the military.
