Despite admitting that Ghana is currently “challenged” due to the country’s security lapses, he assured that government is still in control.

“There are challenges with our security and we will deal with it. Has government lost control over security? No. Can we do better? Yes…And we are going to work together to deal with the issue,” Mr. Dery said during an interaction with the media.

Ghana has been blighted by security concerns following a series of lawless and criminal incidents recorded in recent years.

The latest was last Sunday’s attack on the Kwabenya Police Headquarters, where an armed gang invaded the police station and murdered the officer on duty, before freeing seven other suspects who were being kept in the cells.

Many have raised concerns about the country’s security situation, especially with other criminal and lawless cases of such nature recorded in recent times.

Others have also accused the government of losing control of the country’s security situation, insisting the situation could get worse if no immediate measure is deployed.

However, reacting to such concerns, the Interior Minister assured that the state is still committed to maintaining law and order in the country.

He explained that the Police is working round the clock to bring the perpetrators of the Kwabenya jailbreak to book, whiles assuring that government “will deal with it”.

“The Police are on top of it. They are investigating it. They are making progress. We believe we will get back the people who have perpetrated it and we will deal with it,” Mr. Dery stated.

“I believe we need to confront the situation. How can we make it better. We have to work together and see how several ministries can come together. We need to deal with it. We have to get a sustainable way of dealing with it.”

Ghana has recorded an increase in armed robbery cases in recent years, with many security personnel losing the lives in an attempt to arrest these criminals.
