Tell us who killed our father or no funeral rites - Late Yaa Naa's children

“Until these murderers are made to face the full rigors of the law, there can never be any thought of performing the funeral of our murdered father, Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II,” the children have said.

The government in collaboration with the Otumfuo Dagbon Mediation Committee, have made advances with the agenda to implement the final phase of the road-map to peace in Dagbon.

This includes performing the funerals of the late two overlords of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV, and that of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II.

But the children said they will resist any attempt by the government to oversee the performance of the funeral rites of Mahamadu Abdulai at the old Gbewa Palace.

At a press conference on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the children, Abdulai Yakubu Andani, said that performing the final funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV in the old Gbewaa Palace in Yendi will be a clear breach of Dagbon customs and traditions.

“We also wish to state that we will resist by any means necessary any attempt to perform the funeral of Mahamadu Abdulai at the old Gbewaa Palace for the reason that he was not a Yaa-Naa.”

They also accused the NPP of shielding the killers of their father who was grisly murdered in 2003 under the then NPP administration.

The spokesperson also touched on a government delegation led by National Security Minister, Albert Kandapah’s recent visit to Yendi to activate the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV’s funeral performance agenda.

He said that the delegation made proposals including the need for the Dagbon Regent to relocate and allow the Abudu Royals to occupy the old Gbewaa Palace and perform the final funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV.

The spokesperson advised the National Security Minister, saying, “We would like to draw the attention of the National Security Minister to the fact that he has been appointed to deal with matters relating to the security of the country and there is an outstanding matter of serious security concern to Dagbon and the country at large.”

“It relates to the criminal elements who carried out those heinous crimes on March 27, 2002, and the government he represents knows these criminals, and we expect the Honorable Minister to concentrate his efforts on ensuring that they are apprehended and brought to justice.”

“He should leave Dagbon traditional matters to those entrusted with such responsibilities. We demand of the honorable Minister who killed our father, Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II.”
