Spio-Garbrah not certain to contest NDC flagbearership

Earlier, Ekow Spio-Garbrah said he is lacing his boots to contest the presidential primaries of the NDC.

He said he will contest if former President John Mahama refuses to contest.
However, the former Trades Minister contradicting his earlier comments said he is yet to make a decision about contesting the party’s presidential primaries.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, he said his supporters have asked him to contest in the party's presidential primaries.
"What has been said so far came from members of my fan club who are hoping that I consider becoming a candidate but that is different from me myself saying I am a candidate. If I am declaring my candidacy for anything, I will not do so through alliances. I will speak for myself.

"When the party invites those who are interested in becoming leaders of the party, at that point, in consultation with my supporters and fans and other party leaders, I will decide the role I will play," he noted.
He said the party should be interested in fixing the problems that led to their defeat in 2016.
Names that have come up so far include the former majority Leader, Alban Bagbin, retired Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, former vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Victor Smith, Professor Joshua Alabi and former NHIS boss, Sylvester Mensah and former mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije.
Mahama is yet to declare his intentions whether or not to contest the 2020 flagbearer race of the NDC.
