Charlotte Osei is not ignorant like people think - Duncan-Williams

The General Overseer of the Action Chapel International ministry, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams has said Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Madam Charlotte Osei is not ignorant like people think she is.

According to him, Charlotte Osei is very well educated and has a good head and heart adding that she needs help, and not criticisms from Ghanaians.

Some staff of the EC has filed a petition against the Chairperson calling for a full-scale investigation into alleged misconduct and abuse of office on her part.

The concerned staff in their petition claim her decision to cancel a contract awarded to Superlock Technologies Limited (STL), a company contracted to supply and manage Biometric Voter Registration machines (BVRs) and the Biometric Voter Devices (BVDs), as well as her directive for the payment of $76,000 to IT firm, Dream Oval, were fraudulent and hence she should be removed from office.

Mrs. Osei and her deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Amankwaa have been trading accusations and counter accusations at each other.

Whiles the deputies accuse Charlotte Osei of incompetence and arrogance, Osei has hit back accusing them of corruption and financial malfeasance.

Duncan-Williams speaks

But Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams speaking on Accra-based Starr FM said, the work of the EC boss must not be underestimated.

He said "I have known her since she was 18 years. She has been in my church since the age of 18. I think a lot of people underestimate her, she is not that ignorant like people think she is. She is very well educated, she has a good head and a good heart. She just needs help."

He indicated that he does not like the way women in higher positions are treated.

"I don’t like the way we treat women in this country, especially when they are in higher office of responsibility. We subject them to all kinds of opinions. The young grow and we need to develop young minds, both men and women for a better tomorrow," he added.
