Police issues fraud alert

The Police has warned that some unscrupulous persons are posing as workers of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to perpetuate fraud.

According to the police, the fraudsters call unsuspecting public sector workers requesting their biometric social security numbers for a purported account reconciliation.

The fraudsters, in the midst of the communication, ask for some unspecified amount from the workers and subsequently truncate the communication.

The police, in a statement, said: “Recipients of these fraudulent calls are threatened with stoppage of their salaries if they fail to comply with their demands.”

The police has, therefore, urged members of the public, especially public sector workers, not to share their details on phone and other social media platforms.

The citizenry has also been asked to alert the police of any transaction they find suspicious.
