Opportunity beckons Clottey and Rosado

Ghana’s Joshua Clottey will discover just how much further he can go in his very impressive career at the age of 38 when he comes up against hard hitting Philly slugger Gabriel Rosado at the Turning Point Resort on Saturday.

Clottey 39-4, 22 KOs , a former welterweight champion is moving up in weight for his first fight since his win over Jorge Silva last year and still has ambitions of one last mega fight in a career that has seen him fight marquee names like Cotto,Pacquiao,Margarito and Corales.

Rosado 21-9, 13 KOs how ever is no pansy even though his recent record is not the most encouraging;he has not won a single fight since 2012 albeit against a stellar list including Gennady Golovkin, J’Leon Love, Peter Quillin, Jermell Charlo and David Lemieux. He has spent time pursuing an acting career including a recent high profile role in the new Stallone movie “Creed”.

For both of these boxers,Saturday’s fight presents an opportunity to progress.

“This is a different situation,” Rosado, 31, said. “I just really wanted the opportunity to come back strong. I think they finally put me in that position. I’m not taking him lightly because I want to look good, but it feels like a good situation to be in. Clottey is a name, but obviously he’s moving up in weight. So they’re putting me in a position where I’m supposed to look good – and that hasn’t happened in a while.”

“This is a big fight. It’s a fight that could put me in position to fight Canelo Alvarez next. So I definitely made sure I did everything right. I went away to camp (in Las Vegas), hooked up with (strength and conditioning coach) Jason Sargus, and got with Fernando Vargas. I made sure that I’m in top shape for this fight.”

Clottey has not spoken too much ahead of this fight aside a complaint about the chilly weather and having to make weight. That has always been his style though. He never gives too much away in the ring but always provides a stern test.
