The Black Stars are scheduled to play Mexico in the early hours of Thursday, before taking on USA two days later in international friendlies.

However, not many have been enthused about the fixtures, with certain quarters questioning the rationale behind playing such friendlies, especially as Mexico's first team is currently playing in the FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia.

El Tri will therefore present a B team to face the Black Stars, and many have already branded the match needless.

However, Kwesi Appiah believes the two friendlies will give him the chance to assess new players in the Black Stars team, while also serving as preparation for the Black Stars’ upcoming World Cup qualifiers in August.

Speaking to reporters at the team’s base in the US, the Black Stars coach said: "My ambition has been to build a team for the nation and we are in the middle process.

“But at the same we take this opportunity to look at the new players that we have, and at the same time it looks like these are only games we’ll play before our next World Cup qualifier.
