Review of match day 21 of the GPL

Match day 21 produced a lot of action attraction in the seven league centres which saw football.

The Phobians fell at Bechem United via a 77th minute penalty conceded against Bcehem United. They had lost 0-1 at home against  on match day 20 and they needed a win to be back on track, but that wasn’t the case as the Bechem lad picked all the three maximum points at stake.

The defeat means Asante Kotoko their bitterest rivals have overtaken them on the league log. The Porcupine Warriors are now 3rd with 35 points, while the Phobians are 4th with 33 points.

At the Tema Sports Stadium, Tema Youth were handed their second home defeat of the season when Ebusua Dwarfs edged them 2-1. It was a bad day in office for the Tema lads who appeared to have rediscovered their form after 0-4 away win against Olympics which was followed by a home win against Aduana Stars and a draw at Wa All Stars. But they were stunned by the Cape Coasters to shake them out of their complacency.

Nicholas Gyan's opener against Tema Youth has increased his goal tally to 11 to keep his place as the leading top scorer.

Asante Kotoko after suffering their first ever away defeat against Medeama at Tarkwa on match day 10 returned strongly and managed to avenge that defeat with a 3-1 win. Evan Quao and Ahmed Adams, Kotoko’s two centre backs were both on the score sheet. Asante Kotoko have rediscovered their form in the second half of the league having won four and drawn two of their six league games which is quite impressive.

Elmina Sharks enjoyed their first league victory under new coach Yaw Acheampong when they hammered whipping boys Bolga All Stars 3-1.

Gt. Olympics increased the woes of Wa All Stars who had sacked their coach before their match day 20 as they defeated the league champions 2-0. Cofie Bekoe made the news when he weaved his way through forest of legs before slotting the ball home in a delightful fashion ts the to get the hosts the second goal.

The win has ended the 'Wonder club's' three successive defeats in the league: lost 0-4 at home against Tema Youth, before Liberty Professionals piped them by a goal to nil and suffered 1-0 away defeat against Aduana Stars.

Aduana Stars took advantage of the lack of activity for league leaders WAFA on match day 21 due about five of their players in the camp of the local Black Stars who played against Togo team B over the weekend to close in on them at the top of the league summit. The Dormaa boys edged Liberty Professionals 2-1 at home. As it stands Aduana Stars and WAFA are both on 40 points, but the latter have a game to spare which is against AshGold at Obuasi.

Berekum Chelseas were held to a one all draw at the Golden City Park for the second consecutive home league games. On match day 19 they had to fight from a goal down to draw even against Dwarfs.
