Five presidential aspirants pick nomination forms

Five presidential nominees have so far picked nomination forms from the Electoral Commission in a bid to contest and win the December polls.

The five are President Mahama who is contesting on the ticket of the NDC, Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Kofi Akpaloo of the Independent People’s party (IPP), Akwasi Addai Odike of the United Progressive Party (UPP) and Nana Agyenim- Boateng of the United Front Party (UFP).

President Mahama picked his form on Wednesday. A Deputy General Secretary of the NDC Koku Anyidoho picked it on his behalf. The other four nominees picked theirs on Tuesday.

Kofi Akpaloo who was the first to pick the form said the IPP was the only alternative for governance now.

Presidential and parliamentary candidates are mandated to a filing fee of GH¢50,000 and GH¢10,000 respectively but several political parties have raised concerns with the pricing.

Both presidential and parliamentary candidates are expected to submit their forms between September 29 and 30, 2016.
