The event will also be used to present the party’s presidential candidate, President John Dramani Mahama to the electorate.

Director of Communication for the NDC campaign Joyce Bawa Mogtari said

The president, who is seeking a second term on the ticket of the NDC, is expected to justify why Ghanaians should give him a second chance in the upcoming polls.

The theme of the NDC campaign is "Changing lives, transforming Ghana."

The campaign will outline government's achievements and what it intends to do when given another term in office.

The NDC had earlier explained that it chose the Central Region for the campaign launch because it has the capacity to mobilize more people due to the loyalty and commitment of supporters and executives of the party.

Meanwhile, a ban on drumming and noise-making in Cape Coast in the Central region was lifted on Friday, August 12. This was announced by the Oguaa Traditional Council.

The ban was imposed as part of the preparations for the annual Fetu Afahye festival, which is expected to take place from 27th August to 4th September.

The lifting of the ban came just two days before the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s scheduled campaign launch at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Earlier the Progressive Progressive People’s Party raised concerns over the decision by the ruling National Democratic Congress to launch its campaign in Cape Coast.

But the Oguaa Traditional Council has explained that the ban was lifted after the NDC agreed to perform certain traditional rites for the ban to be lifted.

Residents have accused the Traditional Council of accepting bribe but they have denied this allegation.

Tufuohene of the Oguaa Traditional area, and a member of the Fetu Afahye planning committee, Nana Kwame Adu, said

He explained that the NDC came to them with reasonable explanations why the ban should be lifted.
