Hearts of Oak held 1-1 at home by Techiman City

The Premier League debutantes began to warm themselves into the game and in one of their attacks they nearly stunned the Phobains, but Bawa once again with his weaker left foot shot wide.

Hearts of Oak once again failed to pick the three maximum points at home as they were held to a 1-1 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday on match day 24 of the 2016

The Phobians scored first through Cosmos Dauda’s spot kick but Techiman City restored parity courtesy Isaac Baah’s sweet low drive.

The Phobians started the game as the more assured side passing the ball around nicely, but they were caught off guard by Techiman City as the away side created the first chance in the contest but Samuel Bawa shot wide.

After that, Hearts of Oak also created their first chance – Inusah Musah failed to connect home Ollenu Ashittey’s free-kick after jumping everybody in City’s six-yard box. The home side continued to press the visitors searching for the opener, but the Techiman based club was resolute at the back foiling the attacks of the Accra giants.

Though the Phobians enjoyed a large share of the possession, they couldn’t trouble Techiman City’s defence as the away side were content with the passing game of the former Premier League champions.

In the 27th minute, a wonderful inter-positional play by Hearts of Oak opened up Techiman City defence. However, Ollenu Ashittey’s cut-back pass was cleared by Iddrisu Yahya.

It was end to end action in the final minutes of the half – And Cosmos Dauda who has been quiet in the game tested Richmond Ayi in post for the visitors from 20 yards, but the young shot-stopper stood to the test as the first period was brought to an end with the two teams failing to get on the score sheet.

In the second period, the home side improved their performance, and they piled more pressure on the visitors and in the 52nd-minute Hearts of Oak were awarded a penalty after Richmond Ayi failed to grab Ashittey’s harmless cross and in his bid inn going for the second catch fouled Paul Acquah in his six-yard box.

Cosmos Dauda then scored his ninth goal in the ongoing campaign by sending Ayi the wrong away. It seems the goal has energised the Phobians as they lunched another attack but the away side defended well.

Techiman City after the goal settled into the game and they began to march Hearts of Oak boot for boot with Baba Mahama being their brightest player on the field.

The attacking strategy deployed by the Techiman based side yielded dividend as in the 70 minute Isaac Baah pulled even with a breathtaking low drive on the edge of Hearts of Oak penalty box.

Techiman City seemed to have found an antidote to the Phobians play as they pinched the home side’s midfield and they were dangerous whenever they initiate an attack while the Phobains also threw a lot of bodies up front in search of their second goal.

Hearts of Oak late in the game launched series of attack which they failed to bury those chances. With five minutes of time added on the game was brought to an end.
